Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS)
The Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), Arizona's Medicaid agency, offers several low or no cost medical coverage programs to Arizona families and children. To participate in these programs, all individuals must be US citizens or qualified immigrants. Brief descriptions of each program are provided below:
- AHCCCS for Families with Children provides medical coverage, including doctor's office visits, hospitalization, prescriptions, lab work, and behavioral health services to families. For a household to qualify, it must have net income below the federal poverty threshold include a child under the age of 18 (or age 18 if the child is a full-time student in secondary school and expects to graduate by age 19.
- The AHCCCS Care program provides medical coverage to low-income individuals and couples, including doctor's office visits, hospitalization, prescriptions, lab work and behavioral health services.
- S.O.B.R.A. provides medical coverage, including doctor's office visits, hospitalization, prescriptions, lab work, and behavioral health services to low-income pregnant women and children age 18 and younger.
- KidsCare provides medical coverage for children in low-income families who have had no health insurance for the last three months.
- Health Insurance for Parents of Children covered by AHCCCS under KidsCare or S.O.B.R.A. The program covers parents who are not currently insured and have not been insured for three months.
